Getting back to God (Part 1)
8/26/22 21 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through Jeremiah and the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the desolation until 70 years were fulfilled. [1] O: This is a significant statement. Jerusalem has fallen. Many Judahites died or forced into servitude in exile driven from their homeland. Finally, the land can experience rest. God’s people neglected the jubilee resting the land for a year after seven years have passed. The Lord had to step in to make the land experience the sabbath letting it rest for the 70 years His people were in exile. Please be reminded of Lev 26:34-35 which forms an element in a long list of punishments that would attend Israel’s disobedience. One consequence of an exile would be to give the land the rest it should have enjoyed but was denied. The end point of the land’s desolation would be reached when the seventy years spoken of by Jeremiah were fulfilled. [2] For unbelievers cannot enter God rest (Heb 3:19). A: Th...
